While the Ohio Electric Vehicle Tax Credit and Ohio Hybrid Tax Credit are not currently available at the state level, there are still valuable savings opportunities through federal tax credits and utility rebates.
Federal EV Tax Credit
The biggest savings opportunity comes from the federal government. Eligible buyers of new EVs or plug-in hybrids may qualify for the federal electric vehicle tax credit of up to $7,500. This incentive helps reduce the cost of switching to electric, but it is set to expire on September 30, 2025. Buyers are encouraged to act soon to take advantage of this benefit before the deadline.
Ohio EV & Hybrid Fees
While Ohio does not currently provide a state EV or hybrid purchase credit, it does impose annual registration fees for alternative-fuel vehicles.
- $200 per year for all-electric vehicles
- $150 per year for plug-in hybrids
- $100 per year for traditional hybrids
Legislation is being considered that may eliminate the extra $100 fee for hybrid vehicles, which would make ownership more affordable. Our team is keeping an eye on these updates to keep you informed.
Charging Rebates & Local Incentives
Ohio drivers can also save through select local programs, such as:
- Butler Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc.: members who purchase and install a Level 2 home charger may be eligible for up to a $1,000 rebate.
- Consolidated Electric Cooperative, Inc.: residents who install a certified Level 2 home charger may receive up to a $250 rebate as a credit on their electric bill.
